Still wet at night

My children are 4 and 5 - and although they are dry during the day, they still wee at night. I've heard that it's a hormone that you have to wait for to kick in - or does anyone have some bright ideas for acheiving dry nights? I'd love to hear them. Thanks. R x

Re: Still wet at night

What kind of sleeper is he? My daughter wouldnt wake for a bomb and we tried everything mentioned and she was still wet in the morning. I spoke to the Doctor and Baby Health Clinic Nurse and they both said that unless she is still wetting at age six just keep her in the nappies and wait for her to train herself. She eventually trained at 4.5 but still had accidents once a week or so then less frequently until she was around seven.

I have heard soaking them in an epsom salts bath before bed helps some too. A few people I know of say if they havent stopped then the leakage is less. Didnt know about this before so cant speak from personal experience.

Re: Still wet at night

I agree with the nighttime wake-up. My aunt and my grandma raised my cousin doing this. After a while it turns into an alarm clock and they will eventually go to the washroom themselves. Also, when they say they can't go pee you would sit them on the toilet and run the water tap.

Re: Still wet at night

Night wetting is a pain in the proverbial for parents and can be embarrasing for children at this early age too.  As a child I was on a strickt routine of no drinking for half to one hour before bedtime and a toilet visit after teeth brushing immediately before bed.  I have carried this on with my own children and it seems to work wonders.  I also find a toilet visit immediately on rising is always necessary also.  Hope this helps

Re: Still wet at night

This may or may not solve your problem, but I thought I'd share my story.  My son is almost 4 years old and keeps dry at night. When he was potty trained at 2 1/2, it took me a while to decide to give up night diapers for the occassionally wet nights. But then I decided to tried to wake him up at night right before I (or hubby, depending on who goes to bed last) go to bed and make him pee. Since we've been doing this, he's been dry. In the morning he still somestime have to rush to the bathroom, but relieving him in the middle of the night is enough to prevent him from getting wet. For the first few times, it wasn't easy to get him out of bed, but now he doesn't even remember us getting him up. He barely wakes up when we make him pee.

Good luck.

Re: Still wet at night

Hello,

Yes, sometimes, some children just take a little longer.  You'd be surprised how many chldren wet the bed at four and five.

If your children are stil wetting at six, there is a program called Wetaway, which is a program run through the child healthcare clinics where you get a bedweetting alarm and a pad that's put on the bed and when wee touches the pad, the alarm goes off, and it teaches them to wake up before they wet.

If this doesn't work, your GP can prescribe your child or children Minirin, which is a nasal spray taken at night which is very effective.

Feel free to minti mail me if you want to know more.

Good luck with it all.

Tanya.

Re: Still wet at night

Thanks for all of your suggestions. It's getting them to wee first soon as they get up which is the problem - I'm sure most of the wee in their nappies is just a.m laziness! But as you will understand, I'm reticent to wake them up before they get up naturally in the morning - I NEED SLEEEEEP! I have tried the lift 'n' wee before my bedtime with sporradic success. But maybe I just need to try again and stick to it.

THanks again, everyone.
