School problems

Hello my daughter started school 2008 cryed alot the teacher did not help settle her in at all. She didnt help her in class much either.

We suggested to the teacher that she needs exta help but didnt think so at the time. She started getting a little bit of help in the end. We would get her to read after school and do the sight words play games but was not intrested because her teacher gave her no confidence at school just put downs.

The school tells us in term three she needs to repeat we said no we want her to go to year 1. In these school hoildays she is now reading six to eight books in a row and starting to get alot better through me sitting down with her for an hour and a half ever day.   Well my question is how do you make the school give your child help not just now and then?

Re: School problems

I had similar problems with my eldest child in pre-primary a very pleasant but strong willed boy in a class taught by a teacher who made it obvious she only liked girls...... Whist I admit no child is perfect my boy was sent to the principle in his 2nd week (age 5) for being disruptive... I wanted to change him to another class immediately but everyone said we should persevere in the same class as he had made friends.  I wish I had been more insistant as my next child had the other teacher the next year and thrived - she was fantastic.

When all is said and done, you should follow your gut instinct and if you don't think the teacher is right for your child then insist the principal moves them to another class.  Afterall, even at such a young age it is possible to have personallity clashes and more importantly your child's self esteem needs building in a new environment, not dampening.

Do what YOU think is best and bugger the rest.....

Re: School problems

Yes all true you have made me realise it want my daughters needs a teacher who will answer her not one that writes in all her school books in massive big writting ( NOT ENOUGH WORK FOR FIFTEEN MINTUES NOT GOOD ENOUGH)  to a reception defenetly wont put up with it for another year with a similar teacher I have been by someone in my family that there child was not helped with learning difficulties. I also had the opportunetiy to change in the year but didnt because of her friends big mistake. Thankyou for your advice hope all goes well for your children at school this year to.

Re: School problems

My advise to you is have a meeting with the teacher to discuss your concerns - if you are not satisfied with the outcome g get an appointment with the principal to discuss concerns. However the other thing you could do is volunteer in your daughters classroom - that way you are on the spot and you can see exactly what is happening and your daughter may feel more comfortable with you around.

Re: School problems

Hello raema we did go to the principal, but will go to him again they have also put my daughter with another teacher this year and she is not very friendly like last year one. I think they put her in her class on her report they said J distracts other kids  we will probably ask for the other teacher who give praise rather than put downs. Yes I will deffently spend more time in her class. Thankyou you for your comment. Its funny while I am typing this my girls are playing hairdressers doing my hair aww relaxing I will have many clips to take out now.
