Mirena

Hi everyone,

I have had the Mirena for 4 years. I have not found many problems with it, but I have wondered whether it had anything to do with my inefficienty to lose weight. I'm not big, but I'm 1.57 mt and weight 59 kg.... I used to weight 55 Kg before my pregnancy. This is my fourth year with Mirena IUD and I'm experiencing very sore breasts & they also feel quite hot, it is the first time this has happened since I had the IUD inserted. I used to have mood swings, but my hubby says it is not the Mirena, but my family tree!!!! Ha ha ha!!! (I come from South America) I have not had a period since I got the IUD put on, which has been good - But I have had people wondering whether it is normal for a woman to skip periods, it is a bit difficult to explain how the Mirena works to people who are not interested in using it.I am considering to have it put on again after my 5 years are up.... Any thoughts???

Thanks

Pat

Re: Mirena

The hormone in the mirena does something to the receptors in your brain & makes your body think it is pregnant!

So yes, moods, sore breasts, weight gain are all possible. I had all of these & more & I only had it for 2 months! I had it taken out after I read that the anxiety I was experiecning (for the first time in my life - I am 35) was probably due the mirena.

I had also noticed : weight gain, bloating, headaches, tired, restless, hot, terrible sweats at night resulting me waking up wet, very moody, despondent. All of these have gone since it's removal a week ago. The anxiety went that same day! It just lifted, so to speak!

I would NEVER recommend it to anyone, tbh.

Re: Mirena

I have had a tubal ligation due to the fact that my husband and I are finished expanding our family, and I am still considering having a Merina inserted once my periods return just to hopefully stop them.

With it being so close to the end of the allowed 5 years I would seek medical advice on your symptoms, they sound hormonal (which the merina definitely alters).  The only people I know that have had them are all still in the first couple of years.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance.
