Re: Comparing notes

I think these days there is a lot more emphasis on bonding and playing and helping your baby to explore their developing senses than there was a generation or two ago.  Babies born then had mothers who generally stayed in hospital a lot longer than we do (if that's where we've had our children) and generally only had the babies brought to them when it was time for a feed.  These days our babes are usually with us right from the start and there is more education on how to interact with them.  I know my mum couldn't get over the fact that we had 'toys' for our girl right from the start and the amount of time I spent interacting with her.  She too commented on how alert and aware my little one seemed at a very young age.  We're feeding their brains right from the get go so I'm sure this makes a difference in how quickly they develop.

Re: Comparing notes

My son is 6 months old, he has been having time on the floor since he was 2 weeks old, he has been commando crawling since he was 8 weeks old, properly crawling since 4 months and now climbing since 5.5 months.
I think kids are growing up and learning faster now, I have been told he is still fast for modern day but the children's health nurse who comes to my house said that you dont do what your parents did because they arent as breakable as people act

He is also bigger for his age, he is 6 months old in a few days time and he is 8.84KG which is in the 75th percentile, and so is his height in the 75th percentile but I cant remember his length exactly.

Re: Comparing notes

Hey sorry about muddling up your question. I think babies are evolving a lot. Even size, quite a few people think my son is about 9 or 10 months old and he's only just turned 4 months old. And my mum comments about how alert he is etc as well so there's another view to add to your observation. I was actually talking about this with my partner the other day so I've noticed it too.

Re: Comparing notes

Hehe Sorry everyone, what I ment was has anyone else found that there parents/granparent thing babys are growing up a lot faster?

My daughter never wanted to be wrapped even when she was a baby.

Everyone also comments on how "alert" she is for a 4 month old, always needing to see everything and taking everything in (i know this may just be her).

It more have we evolved in the last few generations lol?

Re: Comparing notes

My daughter is 14 months old and will not go to sleep if she hasn't been wrapped. We tried to stop wrapping her for her day sleeps so she tried to cut out the day sleep.

I have no problem if people want to wrap their kids and there is really no age to stop this. The only problem we are looking out for is if our daughter tried to stand up in her cot while she had the wrap on.

Hope this helps

Juzzy

Re: Comparing notes

My boy hates being wrapped when at home has since he was bout 2 months old but he would settle himself at night so it was no worries. When we go out and we want him to sleep we have to wrap him so he doesn't play with everything, he is currently 20 months and wrapping is the only way I am able to get him to sleep when he isn't in his own bed.

Re: Comparing notes

Hi,

I was wrapping up Leena untill she was 5 months, my baby was not sleeping very well at night, she used to wake up when ever she move her hands, so my mom in law asked me to wrappe her up so that she will feel comfortable and warm, and it worked for her , but when she became 5 months she started to refuse getting wrapped, so no worries.

Re: Comparing notes

hey sorry if I've misunderstood you but are you asking if babies should stay wrapped up (so they feel like they're still in the womb) until 6 months?

I tried to with my son but he didn't like it. He had a tantrum every time his arms couldn't be outside the blanket. Even today, he will have a tantrum unless he sleeps with his arms above the blanket.

My advice would be to try it and if your daughter loves it then keep doing it, she will soon tell you when she's sick of it. By about 3-4 months you would be lucky to keep her wrapped up if she's anything like my little boy. He's a blanket kicker lol
