Hi,
I started reading to him in his new bed instead of mine. Then I would pat him to sleep. Sometimes it took a while.
We also told him over and over the week before that we were going to set up his big boy bed. He was excited and wanted the bed right away. This helped a lot.
You can also start putting him down for a nap on the new bed first.
