Re: Religion?

Hey there,

It sounds as if it her own personal beliefs rather than religious beliefs that are colouring her comments and her views on things. Just rememember that you are doing what is best for your beautiful child and no one elses ill informed beliefs or comments should make you question the path that you need to take to help your child. I was raised both Cof E and then Catholic ( quite staunchly -I was an altar girl for 5 years!) I have never heard that surgery  ( apart from abortion ) would upset patrons of either religions! If you think it would help your MIL  ( or just stop her being a pain in rear ) ask her to have her local priest do a blessing ceremony for your child before surgery. This would end up making her put a cork in it and if she is truly religiosly concerend appease her concerns.  It can't hurt !) Best wishes for you and your beautiful son!

Re: Religion?

religion shouldnt matter when it comes to the health of a child, not all will agree of your choice but at the end of the day it has to be up to you, i say go for it, ill pray for you all every day even tho i dont know u. if you can get more little time with your little one then go for it. take care and i wish you all the best

Re: Religion?

Could be the MIL's questions are more about dealing with her own concerns/worries for your little chap??

If she does bring up the "religious objections' issue directly, you might even consider calling and having a chat with the local catholic priest -- he might be able to help shed some light on the issue, and possibly even intervene to calm some of your MIL's fears surrounding the surgery?? just a thought!

Re: Religion?

Jo don't even go there, this is a Moral Theology Debate that is ongoing  within the Roman Catholic Church nay all religions come to that and seeps down through the hierarchy to the congregations without all facts being made plain.

The Catholic Church has NO position on what you intend to do for your beloved son.

The accepted stance so far is that if "Extraordinary" means of intervention hold NO hope or benefit to the person then on religious moral grounds it should not be attempted.

Your son does not fit within that religious moral guide.  Your Son's op holds hope of relieving the symptoms and therefore benefits him directly.

Sadly Priests take their own Moral Stance and come down on different sides of the debate, It maybe that your MIL may have been guided over the years by those who would sit on the right hand side of that debate.

You do what is right for you and yours.

O.K I Just did a check with a Friend who is a Priest, he concurrs completely with what I have written and wishes you all well on the road ahead.

Re: Religion?

The Catholic Church does not at any time stated the it is against any form of surgery to improve the quality of life.  Catholics are not permitted to have abortions.

Re: Religion?

I am by no means a Catholic expert, however I was raised Catholic, and my sister is still a highly devout Catholic. I do not remember, at any time throughout my life hearing anything about not believing in surgeries of any kind (except for what the previous blogger mentioned). Hope this helps, and best of luck with your sweet little man!   <3

Re: Religion?

NOt so good little Catholic school girl here, and I lived next door to the Church of England and went to Sunday school there as well, and I never heard of anything that says that something like brain surgery should not be done to improve the quality of someone's life with either religion.

The catholic church is against abortion, divorce, and contraception, but isn't against surgery to improve someone's life... unless things have changed in the past 20 years.

Cheers, DA
