Mozzie bites

Hi all,

My eldest son got attacked my mozzies last night, he appears to be allergic to them, as they swell right up, I'm talking larger than a 50 cent coin.  They don't appear to worry him, I've given him some antihistime (I;m sure thats not right but you get the picture)  and rubbed some stop ich on them, but was wondering if anyone knows some natural remedies to help bring down the swelling.

He's a bit of a wiggler so, putting ice or something probably won't help much, he won't sit still.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Mozzie bites

I used to get eczma and allergies when I was little, and my mum used to give me a cold bath and dab calamine lotion on the spots. It did help, and I loved the calamine because it was pink!

Re: Mozzie bites

I'm 24 and seem to be the only one in my family who is attacked by mozzies. I found that Lavender works both to help prevent them biting, and to help stop the itch after being bitten. I was also told from someone who suffers from ross river, to put an "x" through the bite, and it will go down and stop the itch, as long as its not scratched first. Amazingly it works.

Re: Mozzie bites

my son is allergic to mosquito's as well he is 9yrs old but we found out when he was 3yrs old.We immidiately put lavenah oil on the bite this acts as a natural remedy for the bite to go down .works great.we then give him clarantyne if it is a really big bite but surprising the lavenah oil works  most of the time.It is just pure lavendah oil can get it at woolworths in the medicine section next to teatree oil.we take this everywhere.

You can also get mosquito bands from the camping section which is a repellrnt band around wrist or ankle and last for 48hrs and is water proof.they are great as well as you don't have to put insect repellent on them after there bath

Re: Mozzie bites

Hey there, i have the same problem with my daughter, when she gets bitten, they swell up to like bigger than a 50cent piece, and look really inflamed and sore. i took her to the doctor and he said use an antihistime (i cant spell it either lol) but you know what i'm talking bout, which i used, it worked to some extent, but am also myself looking for a natural remedie. i've just searched yahoo and this is what i found, hope it helps as i'm gonna give them a try too. good luck

Garlic
One of the quickest and easiest remedies for those terrible mossie bites is a simple clove of garlic. Cut a clove in half and rub it directly onto the bite. This will relieve the itching almost immediately and is safe to use on children and adults.

Home Made Calamine Lotion
Mix baking soda with water to make a smooth paste. Rub the paste over the mosquito bites. This will stop the itch and works just like calamine lotion. Of course if you have calamine lotion in your medicine chest use that as it really works well on mossie bites.

Salt
A little salty water is good. Make it up with a small amount of water to a teaspoon of salt. Dab it on the bite but do not dry with a towel. The water will dry but the salt residue will remain to stop the itching. A swim in the sea will give the same result if you are near a beach.

Aloe Vera plant Aloe Vera
You may not have Aloe Vera plant growing in your cupboard, but you could get one in a pot on your window shelf or grow them in the garden. Aloe vera is a fabulous, versatile, natural remedy for all bites, sunburn and scratches. Simply break a little piece from the plant and rub it on the bite or infected area.

Other natural remedies that you can apply to bites are lemon juice, lime juice or other citrus juices that taste bitter. The inside of banana peel. Cider vinegar or white vinegar.

It is always best to put something on mosquito bites and sandfly bites for children. Children don't know the meaning behind telling them not to scratch the bites and there is always a danger of the bite becoming infected because of scratching

if these work it'll be a lifesaver, gonna give em a go, hope they work for you
