i was told that a child over 12 months of age only need the equivalent to 800mls of cows milk a day. but in that 800mls it can include yoghurt or cheese. i asked my doctor and even the community nurse about it when i was weaning my son off breast milk and they both told me the same. and as for bottles my boy never really took to them, he was more into the sippy cups which i gave to him around 8 months, so maybe give a sippy cup a try instead of the bottle?

My children were introduced to sippy cups before they even turned a year.  I put formula in them.  I was surprised by how easy the transition was.  The sippy cups that are available now are great.  There are many different style.  One with handles and ones without.  There are so many fun designs and colors for the kids.  You may find that your child really wants a sippy cup once he tries it out for the first time.  They do actually have to suck in them if the valve is inserted to get the liquid out.

At 16 months your little one really does not need a bottle.

It is recommended that bottles cease at around 12mths to prevent the risk of the child developing dental carries. Milk or water can be given in a sippy cup from 6mths of age. Toddlers also do not need much milk. They need 3 serves of dairy a day but over consumption of cows milk is linked with some medical issues like cows milk anemia and toddlers not eating enough normal foods.

at 16mths, your child is probably still having to have a bottle at least 3times a day.  if you are giving him juice or water as well, he may lessen the amount of milk he wants.  they are usually ready to be weaned off the bottle by about 2yrs old depending on their ability to drink out of a cup.  there is no set age that they have to be off the bottle.

Im not sure on the answer for this but my son who is almost 7 months old has bottles and an avent sippy cup - the sippy cup has this suction thing so he cant get a drink without sucking on it so he wont choke on anything.

I think they are about $12 but I think its great and a 16 month old would do fine with out, and you could ween your child off in a matter of maybe 2 months onto sippy cups and from there maybe a few months and then try moving onto regular cups
