Minti Voting

I just got up this morning and logged in.  I have found that overnight I received 4 new votes on my advice and they were all low.  My average advice rating went from 4 stars to 3 overnight.  I am not saying that the votes were undeserved.  If I wrote bad advice then by all means I deserve it.  I just find this strange because looking back at the activity table there was a lot of voting a few hours ago.  I mean a lot.  One after another. Has anyone else noticed anything strange.

It is just so frustrating.  If my advice is that bad then fine, I will refrain from writing in the future.  I do not want to give bad advise to anyone.  Parenting is hard enough without that.  Something just seemed odd about that much voting at once so I wanted to make sure that it was not only me.

Re: Minti Voting

Please don't stop writing. If you connect to even ONE person out there, you've made a difference in someone's life. And that is priceless. Unless you plan to write 5 star advice and get down to the nitty gritty's don't pay any attention to the stars. Write your article with the intention that you're making a difference. Some poor soul is doing a google search right now and you have the answer to their question. And it's irrelevant if someone might give you a 1, 2, 3, 4 or a 5, this person may really connect to you.

Unfortunately spree-like voting does happen from time to time... Sometimes it is sinister, sometimes it isn't.  Your overall rating will balance out after about 10 votes anyway and you will get a better idea of the true value.  I have added some links about voting etc that you might find interesting to read.

Re: Minti Voting

I will have a look at a couple of your articles, have a bit of free time up my hands. If you want some excellent ideas for writing advice I would recommend asking llmunchkin or having a look at a few of her advice pieces. She is really honest and helpful, she has helped me a lot from when I first joined.

Don't take anything to heart or give up. Use what people write in the comments section as guidance to improve your writing. Nobody can be perfect but there is always room to improve. Even the best writers in the world think they can improve in certain areas.

Re: Minti Voting

If you go to the read advice page there is a tab you can select titled 'Needing votes'.  Because your advice is still new I would hazzard a guess that if people were using this tab then yours would come up.  Hence why you would get a few votes in such a short time.

Re: Minti Voting

i know exactly what you mean. I have been on minti 2 years next month and a few of my last advice I did for Autism were not voted on or voted low and I still feel sad about it but as long as I help 1 parent or carer who has a child with Autism with those articles it makes me feel happy.

keep loving minti.

Don't give up.  Even if your advise helps one person, it is worth it.

Re: Minti Voting

everyone has a different standard to a good advice. what I will mark as 5 stars someone will mark as 1 and that 1 star will make it go down a bit.

I have a tun of advice that i have recieved 5 stars from heaps of people and then others have voted it 1 or 2 as they didnt find it valid.

i personally rarely read advice unless it corasponds with what I am looking for or is about something I am particular on like autism and depression.

I wouldn't hold it personal or that your advice is bad. I would keep writting cause its just 1 person who reads it and it works for them and thats worth it.

Re: Minti Voting

Hi there,

My rating for my appendicitis advice went down with only one person voting less for it.. please dont let this sort of thing sway you from continuing the writing of advice, obviously, if you had a high rating previous to this there is lots of minti members out there who think its useful... I felt a little bit down after seeing that my rating wasnt 5 stars anymore, but really, its going to be voted by those who give it top marks, and perhaps those who are a bit harder on the voting... Keep up the advice, Yes I had mine go down also, but really it doesnt bother me because it just makes me determined to write more and get better results..

All the Best , Cheers from Mel xx
