1yo thrusting?

my baby is 13months old and has a healthy curiosity with his genitals. he likes to play with them during nappy changes or bath time. i dont discourage it, because well... he deserves the right to touch his own body.

recently he has been thrusting occasionaly. not nessecarily when he is touching himself. earlier i was breastfeeding him and had my arm lying across his lower tummy, and i noticed he was thrusting a little then.

would this be because it feels good for his genitals? or something else? the only other thing i could think it might be, is if he is aware he has to pee, and is doing it because of that.

any advice/experience with this would be great.

Re: 1yo thrusting?

It's got nothing to do with sex, genitals or anything feeling good. It's all to do with him figuring out that he has body parts, just like he would have played with his feet a lot earlier in life, and the thrusting is just to do with learning movement and muscle control.

Re: 1yo thrusting?

i know its not sexual. its nice that he is so innocent :) but im sure he has worked out it feels good by now. the faces when he does play with it are classic :P

i try to make sure he has nappy free time a few times a week.  iwant him to know that his bits are normal, just like feet. they just do a different job

I hav a 6 month old son, so i now i know if he does this, its normal. Ive never seen my nefew do it, but i do have a little cousin (female) and she humped bean bags when she was 1 lol..

Ive seen on youtube baby boys doing thigs like that, their parents just found it funny tho.

Re: 1yo thrusting?

My boy did this too.  Very embarrasing for me when breastfeeding him in public.  He would put one of his legs between mine and the of other in the air (like an acrobat) and then start thrusting.

This only lasted for a few months! It stopped without me doing anything.

I don't think it is related to finding his genitals - this occurred later for my boy.  Most probably due to bordom (they want to feed, but their brain wants to do something stimulating).

Congratulations for breastfeeding him so long.  My boy is still feeding at 16 months.

If you wanteed to reduce the thrusting, Perhaps lift him up and down when feeding - so he gets a similar type of stimulation, give him something interesting to hold in his hand, pat his bum.

We also play the 'where is baby" game. Look around for your baby, ask "where is -insert his name-", then make eye contact with him. My bub thinks this is hilarious.

Good luck.

Re: 1yo thrusting?

thanks for that. that seems very possibile. he is always on the go, is walking and running and gets so upset if you lie him down.

so he might just be wanting to keep moving. i cant imagine how embarassing it was for you when your son did it! luckily my boys legs are together, and its not very ovbious! only hubby has noticed it. i didnt even want to mention it to my mums group because their boys havnt really paid attention to their genitals.

thanks for the congrats :) i hope to feed him untill he is 2yo. if everything goes well (ie, he doesnt bite )

Re: 1yo thrusting?

wow cant believe how alike some boys are. my son (almost three) started doing it when he turned one. i read up on it and i got advice that i must not discourage it so i left it at that and ignored him if he did it. i found that he does it when he gets bored or tired or after a time out (probably frustration). and when he goes to bed he sometimes takes him pants down to play with it and laughs at it when it gets sort of hard and erect and then falls asleep within minutes. he also likes rubbing against teddies.

i think it is just a matter of them learning about their bodies and the functions of their penises. if he starts doing it in public i just tell him that it is not nice for little boys to play with their penis where strangers or other people can see him, then he stops.

Re: 1yo thrusting?

My 2yo son does this as well and I have no idea why. He will thrust up against teddies, cushions and even me!! I ignored it because I didn't want to encourage it but I have no idea where he picked that behavior up from. He doesn't watch any "rude" tv and my hubby and I are never "intimate" in front of him so I look forward to hearing what other people have to say as well.

Re: 1yo thrusting?

glad my bubby isnt the only one! so far he isnt done it against other things, just me and hubby.

i was doing a nappy change the other day, and i had cleaned him up and was putting a new nappy on. and i have to hold it down infront kinda firm because he is such a squirmer, and he started to thrust on my hand a little. i figured it was fair, cause i had just wiped it and stuff, but now its when he is clothed and stuff
