4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

Hi everyone

Could you tell me what you prefer? The 4 wheeled prams or the 3 wheeled prams? for newborns?

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

I prefer a 4 wheeler for safety's sake, but I like the ones where the front 2 wheels are smaller and closer together than the back wheels.

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

I've had both and i prefer the 3 wheeler. I found then easier to push, you can do it with one hand especailly good if you've got a toddler to hang onto.

Yes then can sometimes be too big and hard to sometimes you don't fit, but you learn quickyl were you can and can't fit thru

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

4 wheel pram, this is what we had we found that it was easier to manover and to go throught doorways and through supermarket check outs.  We found that it was lighter also.

If you plan to keep it for when bubs is sitting up then I would go for a 4 wheel pram.  With a 3 wheel pram the wheel is right in the front middle (if you know what I mean) and it makes it harder for your child to sit in a sitting position with legs down. (hope that makes sense).  There is no where for the legs to go.  I just find that this looks awkward and would also feel awkward.

My sister had a 3 wheel pram and found that it was quite heavy and it wouldn't fit through some doorways.

I would go to a baby shop look at all the prams and try them out.   Collapase them and put them up again and also walk around the shop with it.   When you find the one you are happy with, get on ebay and get it for nearly half the price, this is what we did.

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

Definately a 3 wheeler. I have had both, first a four wheeler and now a three wheeler and the 3 definately is easier to manage. Especially in shops when you all of a sudden find a dead end and have nowhere to turn around.

My main piece of advise would be to check the width of any pram you choose, as I have found with my first 4 wheeler, that I could not fit through some of the checkouts at Woolworths/Coles. Had to use the disabled checkout in order to fit the pram through!

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

i have a 4 wheel pram in the 3 wheel shape, it is fantastic! there are heaps of different brands out there that offer something similar, we had a look at all of the options available to us and ended up getting a Steelcraft Strider 4, it is really compact in the car, and i love the fact i can turn the seat around or put the bassinet in if i want,(takes about 2 sec to change it) plus the handle is adjustable so someone tall can push it really easily and the basket underneath is HUGE, but has never gone near the ground despite some serious overloading on occasions, lol

hope this helps

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

3 wheeler because i had a three wheeler with my 1st thought it bulky alward in boot and if you get really heavy winds it can be a bugger to push but then moved to pushchair hated that really hated it it was a horrible ride with its hard wheels mac wld never sleep in it then tried a tandem when i had my second got rid hard wheels are awful so yes the three wheeler has its down falls but my boys love there comfort so if you can provide the boot space its fine thers very few places i have difficulty with it, its alward for like a mnth in winter with high winds but other that that its soo much easier to push and now my writs dont act like shock absorbers on bumpy paths lol

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

I prefer 4 wheeled prams.  they just look safer and more stable than the 3 wheel version.  3 wheelers need a wide wheel base and you are more likely to have to go through a disabled access/pram checkout at the shops because of this, whereas most 4 wheelers will fir through a normal checkout. (starting off with a twin pram myself, this was something I had to get used to anyway, but now I have a single 4 wheeler pram, I much prefer the freedom of a slimmer pram).  3 wheelers tend to have larger wheels and are bulkier in the car boot.  They also need maintenence if they are pneumatic tyres.  3 wheelers look trendier, but i prefer my 4 wheeler (I have never owned a 3 wheeler but have experience with them with long term hospital kids at work).

It also depends on what you want to use your pram for.  If you are jogging everyday, or have difficult terrain to push the pram (poor pathways, grass, hiking trails) over then maybe a 3 wheeler is better.

Re: 4 Wheel Vs 3 Wheel Prams

I prefer 3 wheel prams for their agility purposes, You can get really stable ones too but again its all about being sensible with it ya know, not trying to run down a steep hill with it lol.
My sons pram is a 3 wheel by Valco which he had from birth and I found it fantastic.

Unfortunately now have to buy a twin pram for baby number 2 to fit and I dont think the twin 3 wheeled prams look as stable.
