brestfeeding addict lol

my son is still breastfed, he is 12 months, 2 weeks old. I dont have a problem with breastfeeding him but he prefers breast milk to food? He still wants like 4 + feeds during the day and a few at night.

anyone else had this problem???

He does eat during the day but not as much as i'd expect him to be eating.

Also he still wakes up a few times a night for boobie... is it just me or do other breastfeeding mums have this problem...

oh and he isnt under weight, actually he is 11kg which is perfect for his height and age if not a little chubby lol.

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

Your problem doesn't sound like a real problem to me at all - unless you are uncomfortable about it, but I don't get that idea from your post either.

In fact, you're doing great. I breastfed my youngest daughter until she was almost four. She'd want to nurse once or twice nightly as well, which wasn't a problem as we were co-sleeping. I'd simply allow her to help herself.

Just keep doing what you're doing, and if either of you wants to stop, you can always start weaning him. But you might just want to wait until he weans himself naturally. That's what happened with my daughter.

Just relax and enjoy.

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

He sounds exactly like my 16 month old boy!

My son doesn't eat much - still breastfeeds heaps (day and night). As long as you are happy to keep doing it, he will be fine.

If you decide to wean.  Do it slowly. Congratulations on feeding him so long! Good work, you have given him a great start to life.

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

Hey Ravenheart, I'm still breastfeeding my 2! Oldest is 22 1/2 mths and the baby is 10 1/2 mths.

They both prefer breast over food, am not having a full nights sleep... I probably get woken by 1 or the other very half hour. I love that they are still on titty but I feel like a zombie if I dont get at least 2 hrs of non stop rest and thats very rare. The last few days though, they have been going down at the same time in the middle of the day and thats been great cause then I get to rest too!

My babies are a little of the chubby side as well but I would prefer them to be abit over the scales then under them.

Am going to try and wean them at the same time, when she turns 2 and he turns 1, fingers crossed that it will all run smoothly!

I think at this stage, its just for comfort, when they find something else that comforts them, titty should take a backseat (GOD willing!!!) haha

Peace, Hannah

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

This reminds me of my cousin and her 1st born who would not have anything but titty for 2yrs! She tried different foods with him but he would refuse. She went to the doc and he said that he was getting everything from breastmilk anyways and to not worry. He's 19 now and nearly 6 foot tall and solid!

That would probably do my head in I reckon. hahaha

And thanks Ravenheart, I love that my babies are still bresastfed, my 2 oldest both stopped before they turned 1... 1st born because she bit me and 2nd born because I ran out of milk!

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

Well done, a whole year of breastfeeding is a long time. I think breastmilk is still the best food they can have as a toddler and if his weight is fine and you both enjoy it, why not. A close friend of mine was still feeding her daughter at 2 years and is now trying to wean her. Its mostly the night time feeds that she really wants, especially one in the middle of the night, so I think its probably for comfort! She's trying to give her warm milk instead- after a few weeks of protest she seems to have taken to it.

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

my boy is almost 14months old, and still feeds approx every 4hrs. he eats 3 good sized meals throughout the day. sometimes snacks

he has been on the light side for awhile, but he has always been very mobile. so the mchn is happy with everything.

he is approx 10kg now.

usually we have 1 feed a night, sometimes 2.

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

no problems :)

my mothers group, all the other mums are bottle feeding now (and the bbus are 2months younger then mine) and they are dropping feeds left, right and centre! one only has 2 feeds a day, others have 3. and there i am... with my boy, nearly always every 4 hrs...

if its a day where im just sick of it being so often, i just dont offer it. i wait for him to give me signals he wants it. i dont refuse. but i find sometimes, he gets so distracted he can go a bit longer and still be perfectly happy

Re: brestfeeding addict lol

not having fed my kids that long I honestly dont know.

I guess all in all it is up to u if u wanna keep this routine and stop it when u have had enough or keep it up. (good on ya for going so long. I wish I could of)

I wouldnt worry about the food if he is in good health and weight and height.

with the night ones though, I would be worried he wants them from comfort and not hunger.
