Infertility - low sperm count & motility

ok i thought after trying for so 12 months, I was the problem becos we havent had success with a new baby. I went for hormone test and ultrasounds and doc says i am ovulating and normal. recently got hubby to do sperm count and found out that he was the problem! low sperm concentration (only 1/4 of standard no per mL) and 94% abnormal sperm morphology. quite shocked but glad that at least we figured what went wrong.

just wondering if anyone has got this issue with your hubby having this problem and what the treatment was...and would appreciate anyone sharing with me your success story..

hubby is almost 100kg but he just refused to lose weight. not sure if this is the cause.  he is very healthy man but i am shocked to find out this about his sperm. he doesnt smoke, play soccer occasionally, loves snacking and that is about it.

we have a boy a few years old.

Re: Infertility - low sperm count & motility

My hubby had "suboptimal sperm". we were going to start intrauterine insemination before moving onto IVF but then I got pregnant on clomid during the workup phase.  A clinic can do a sperm washing and pick out healthy looking sperm to inseminate into you.  Its a bit of a process and you may need to go on hormone injections to increase you chances.

sperm quality can be reduced by smoking, alcohol, unhealthy diet, obesity, medication, exposure to heat or chemicals.  Some jobs can create an occupation "sperm" hazard.  Encourage hubby to keep healthy, loose, breathable underwear and stay away from chemicals.  He sounds like he is already doing most of what he can to increase his sperm quality.  Try not to push it too much- infertility can be VERY stressful on a relationship.  I will add a link to my advice on infertility.

good luck to you and your baby making attempts.

BTW- I now have twins, 4 years old and a 9 month old- so we had success!
