Your doctor or midwife should have given you some information about what is safe to eat. Look it up on the web.  The main issue is mercury and listeria.

Yes, salmon and tuna steaks are fine if you cook them well so no part of it is raw, and canned tuna is fine as well. I don't think smoked salmon is advisable but check with your GP on this. He/ she should be able to give you a little pink card to put in your wallet that says the types of seafood you can and can't eat and how often.

Steer away from any raw/uncooked shell fish and fish or meat due to listeria. Cooked fish is fine once or twice a week. Canned tuna is said in my pregnancy book to be safe to eat, a couple small cans a week maximum.

I was lead to believe eating fish while pregnant was good for you....as long as it was cooked and as long as you didn't go over board eating it,

Re: Is fish safe while pregnant?

Fish is great during pregnancy - as long as it's not raw. You should not eat too much deep sea fish (tuna etc) as it can contain mercury, but once or twice a week is fine. Fish is a great source of omega 3 and is great for your developing baby, not to mention yourself, so it's a great idea to have it at least once a week.

Re: Is fish safe while pregnant?

as far as i know salmon is on the safe list for pregnant women as long as its not raw, i have read that smoked meats are a listeria risk and should be avoided.

tuna in a can is recommended  but only one can per week as it contains traces of mercury.

hope this helps ive also provided a link to a minti article under your question
