messy microwave

I'm cleaning out a neighbour's house while she is in hospital, and her microwave is absolutely filthy. Can anyone give me some tips on cleaning an unusually dirty microwave?

Thanks,

grannyjack

Re: messy microwave

get a plate or cup with water put it in for 2-3 min and then just wipe it off. Everything should come off and if it does not a bit of dishwashing liquid would do the trick. I have been using this method.

Re: messy microwave

Hey!  A question I can answer! LOL!  I put a lemon rind or lime piece (usually do this when I'm doing something with citrus)  and put it in a pyrex bowl, turn it on for 1 or 2 minutes and then the steam makes it easy to whipe all the muck off and gives the nice smell of citrus too!  You are so lovely to aid your neighbour!!!  I wish her the best recovery.

Re: messy microwave

Try tossing a damp paper towel or rag in it.  Run the microwave for a minute or two.  The steam will help loosen some of the dried up food and make it easier to wipe out.  CAUTION: the towel will be hot.

Re: messy microwave

Most of the mess in a microwave is just food splatter and it doesn't usually bake on quite as bad as in an oven, so I find that diswashing liquid and hot water, a scourer-sponge and elbow grease usually works. It'll get rid of the worst of it at least.
