Obsession or a phase?

My 18 month old is overly fond of his pee pee.. For well over six months now we have had to put him in one piece suits to stop him playing with it but its gotten worse he will get to it any way he can he can even take his nappy off while wearing a one piece suit. Its gotten to the point that if I dont put on his one piece and shorts over the top he will get a hold of IT and it ends up in wees all over himself and the house> we have tryed to use the one piece suit to distract him but it doesnt work and after many wees and lots of washing Im at my wits end. Its getting to the point where family members have commented on the behaviour. He will play with his toys and still try and get at it and then plays with it while he plays with his toys..Is this all normal behaviour? He really does seem obsessed I am hoping it is a phase and he will grow out of it but it really does seem over the top. Everyone I have asked has never seen a boy so eager to get his hands on it..Any help and advice would be fantastic.

Thankyou

Re: Obsession or a phase?

I work as a qualified in childcare and see a lot of this behaviour eapecially in the 1year to 2year old room. It is normal for children when they find a new part to want to play with it , and it is as common with girls as it is for boys. They usually grow out of it by 2-2.5 years. The only thing you need to watch out for is that he has does not a low grade infection ( next time you visit the doctor just get him to have a look) that he is rubbing to get relief. If you feel the need you can try to distract him with his favourite toy or engaging in play with him, but remember that he is not doing anything wrong and please don't chastise him for it as this could cause confidence problems later.
