Christmas and Easter are big business for confectioners and everything sweet, but also increases the rate of developing tooth decay.

All cavities occur from acid demineralisation of teeth where plaque bacteria change carbohydrate like sugar in food left on teeth after eating, to acid that demineralises tooth causing cavities after thousands of meals or snacks.

Chewing one piece of a block of chocolate every half hour causes more acid demineralisation than chewing the whole block at once.

Tooth decay is the most common human affliction. Even with fluoridation, 11 million Australians develop a cavity each year. Caries increases four fold between the age of 12 and 21.

Over 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures where food is trapped under chewing pressure and saliva or fluoride toothpaste have no access to neutralise acid or remineralise tooth.

Fissure sealants from dentists block food being trapped inside pits and fissures and halt decay.

Chewing special sealant food like sugarless chocolate before eating also helps block food being trapped.

Chewing special sugarless chocolate cheese or nuts after eating helps displace trapped food.

Chewing celery after eating helps saliva neutralise acid and remineralise tooth.

Over 80% of the world population suffer tooth decay and over 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures in grooves on chewing surfaces of back teeth where the brush, saliva and fluoride or other remineralising agents cannot reach. Although most food is left trapped between teeth after eating, sufficient acid forming carbohydrate like sugar is trapped inside pits and fissures to cause over 80%of cavities. Supertooth has reserch projects to limit food being trapped while eating and to help displace trapped food after eating. Also to make it easy to chew fluoride toothpaste before brushing to ensure easy access of fluoride between teeth and inside pits and fissures to make sure remineralisation exceeds acid demineralisation. Encourage your friends to join you and register for Supertooth Says updates on http://www.supertoothndk.org Also please participate in annual surveys

Easter eggs and tooth decay

Kerri Anne's email today promoted sterile toothbrushes. They can be a problem but not as much as tooth decay, the most common and expensive food related disease.
Easter is comming and consumption of easter egg confection will cause multiple episodes of acid demineralised tooth.
Eating confection between meals increases episodes of demineralisation, so eat confection with meals.
