We went shopping first to buy a sweetie he could have afterwards, and then went to see the nurse. She did the first jab - and he was completely silent - then the second arm - still silence.

I gave him a cuddle and told him how brave he was, to which he replied "I was just a little bit surprised". He got his sweet. Good job Oscar.

He's getting his first printer today (on my other blog - http://community.brighton.ac.uk/kh32/weblog/27793.html)
Funny how his little brother has terrible mouse skills - because he can just get his brother to click for him.

Hi gang

I know - it's been a month apparantly since I last blogged, but I have a GREAT excuse! Yesterday was my PhD viva (for those that don't know, thats the oral exam at the end of a PhD where they grill you on everything you've said and done and generally rip your thesis to shreds). Well, I passed! So bar the final administrative stuff, I am now Dr Katie.

Of course, I can't explain this to the boys, because telling them that Mummy is now a "doctor" is just too confusing, but I can tell you all, and be generally smug for a little bit.

It's taken almost 10 years to get this far - during which time I've changed jobs twice, got married, had two kids, moved house and been in full time employment. It's been something of a struggle, and for the first time in a very long time I haven't got a great big weight of what I ought to be doing while I'm tapping away on Minti! So you should get to see a bit more of me...

signing off for now...
Dr Piatt (it's going to make me giggle for a while to come I expect!)

Hey Gang - it's been a while. Just got back from a week's holiday where I managed to stay offline (and off Minti) nearly the whole time (I did sneak a peak at email via a dial-up connection, just to check in at work - yes, I can't disconnect ever!).

Hey Gang - it's been a while. Just got back from a week's holiday where I managed to stay offline (and off Minti) nearly the whole time (I did sneak a peak at email via a dial-up connection, just to check in at work - yes, I can't disconnect ever!).

Anyway, we had a lovely time in Swanage - a place I thoroughly recommend to families with little ones. This is us at Corfe Catle, which you get to on the old steam train:

And part of the pupose of the trip was to celebrate Archie's 3rd Birthday. So here he is doing what 3 years olds like best - playing in the sand and eating ice cream:

So now I see I've been tagged twice so I'd better go and rad what all that's about!

My husband just phoned me at work to tell me that (for the first time) Archie (nearly 3) had asked to go to the toilet and done a poo. I don't know who was prouder, Archie or us! He's been doing well with wees, but have had a lot of accidents with poos lately...so it's a breakthrough day I hope! We told him that if he manages to do a poo on the toilet we'kll give him chocolate, so he's actually been trying really hard for a couple of days to perform - but hadn't got the timing right till today...

The perils of a new TV...

But oh no, it's got a great big, light up power button right in the middle. It's like a magnet to little people. You press it and it goes off and then you press it again and it goes red and then it goes green (and Mummy shouts which is even more fun!).

My 2 year old is just old enough to sit and concentrate in front of a DVD - and then my one year old constantly switches the set off and on...

The places they hide the remote controls is another story altogether

This must be what they mean by social networking...

Anyway, we've had a good day today. It's a bank holiday weekend here in the UK (i.e. no work tomorrow because it's the 1st of May). So we went to some friends for a BBQ, and my boys were really good and we were really proud of them. As a reward they were allowed a glow stick in the bath tonight...whats a glow stick you ask? Those thigns you get at outdoor fireworks events which you bend and then shake and they glow bringhtly for an hour or so - try them in a bubble bath - fantastic!
