Hi there,

I had my tubes tied at the age of 27, I had been married and just had my 6th child to my ex husband at the time..needless to say I surely felt that I never wanted another child again as I had endured birth and labour on my own with baby number 6 and it was all too much to take care of. They still erred on the side of caution because of my age but gladly did it when they found out that i was a single mother to 6 lil kids under 8yo.

I'm not 32, havent had any pregnancy scares.. the op itself was actually quite painful for me, not sure why but I was uncomfortable with wind pains and sharp pains for weeks afterwards and in tears quite often, not bad for braving my last 4 births without even any pain killers LOL. Someone told me it was because they fill your pelvis with air to bloat it up so they have better visibility during surgery. Now, nearly 5 years on, I have a wonderful fiance' who also has 3 children of his own, and to be honest we would have loved to have a child of our own, and I would have liked to have shared the experience with someone who was supportive, havent ever had that chance so I feel a bit sad that I am infertile now some days :( Not to say that you will change your mind, but leave room for the possibility that circumstances change, not only that, it closes alot of options on love possibilities later in life, I had lost many a relationship because I couldnt have a child for men that had no kids of their own yet.. Keep your options open I say, find a less permanant way to stop having kids..abstinence is also an option :P If you would like to email me to find out any more, dont hesitate.

Cheers from Mel xx

As the others have said, at your age you will have trouble convincing a doctor to do it. As for success, you will have something like a 1 in 200 chance of pregnancy (compared to a 1 in 2000 chance if a man has the equivalent op). Reversals are not usually successful. A relative of mine decided she didnt want any more children in her 20s and eventually persuaded the doctors to do it. Then she finally plucked up the courage to leave her abusive husband. Later she had a had the reversal for her new DHs sake, and had her miracle baby, then paid for it to be re-done, and amazingly had another, this time unplanned, miracle baby. DH2 has now had his own op! When she had her first miracle baby, her large hospital admitted it was the first successful pregnancy to term after a reversal. So what I am saying is 1. your feelings/circumstances may change 2. after the op, pregnancy is still possible 3. after reversal, another baby is unlikely 4. anything's possible! There are other possibilities which keep your options open, as others have said. I personally would choose one of them.

You might say that you don't want any more children right now but your situation might change in a few years....and then want another child. As you said you don't know what the future holds for you.

I had my tubes tied 20 years ago through medical reasons....it was done through key hole surgery which is a fairly simple procedure...I suffered no pain from the surgery. Hope this helps you.

Hi there, I had my tubes clipped in 2001 with a Caesarean and had them removed 1 year later. One of my tubes is now blocked fully. With that I haven't been able to fall pregnant again. If you are still young don't have them done at all until you are totally sure you do not want anymore children.

I just had mine done after my 3rd child. Mine was done at the same time as the caesar so I cannot comment on if it's painful or not as I would not have been able to differentiate between the caesar and the tubal ligation.

It's not 100% guaranteed, but it's pretty much as good as it gets. There is no way that I am aware of to test after the fact to make sure it worked.. My youngest is now 10 months old and so far it has certainly proved effective..

As you are still only 20 you may be refused it as an option. You may have to take other methods until a later date. I am unsure as to the preferred minimum age, just don't be surprised it you are told "no" or go back home and come back ... months or years.

Honestly at your age it would be better to go for the implant or something along those lines.

no doc will do it at your age cause you cannot say you honestly wont meet mr right and want more kids. ( this is what I was told and I had my hubby with me and we had been married for 4 years at the time with 2 kids.)

look into long term contraception instead than complete contraception.
