Kicking him and nudging him just isn't working anymore as I end up spending half the night doing it and then we both don't get any sleep. I know he's sick at the moment so I haven't been doing it. I've been going to bed really late and just sleeping in until the afternoon. Once he gets better again he has no excuse

Hi there,

my hubby has very bad sinus problems. His snoring is worse if a: he is very tired or b: he has been drinking alcohol. My solution- I go to sleep before him. or b: If he falls asleep on the couch, I leave him there! C: If I can;t sleep as he is snoring too loudly, I nudge him until he rolls onto his left side ( I have found he still snores lying on his right side!) I have been trying to convince him to get checked out as at his worst he sounds as if he is choking and does stop breathing. His father has a problem with collapsed airways and now has a machine to ensure he keeps breathing at night. I would get your hubby to get checked b his GP if it has suddenly become a problem as it could be a sinus problem that is easily fixed. Hubby did get a dose of his own medicine whilst I was pregnant as once I hit seven months, I apparently snored like a trooper! He never believed me re: his snoring until I recorded him for 4 nights in a row for a few minutes at his best on my mobile. He was actually horrified!

Since then I have quietly had a word to the doctor who recommended to use ginger in my cooking. Apparently it stops snoring, so fingers crossed!

One thing that I've heard is very successful is to make hubby wear a tight-ish t-shirt to bed with tennis balls sewn to the back of it, so he won't roll onto his back. If only my husband would allow me to do it to him. I think you only need to do it until side sleeping becomes a habit.

At the moment, my husband is booked in to get a CAT scan on his head to rule out physical issues that might cause the snoring, because he often stops breathing while asleep, and wakes up exhausted.

Does he have any sinus problems at the moment or could it simply be that he is overtired from too much work. You could try an extra pillow to raise the head or perhaps see if there is any way he can subconsciously work at NOT breathing through his mouth. Have you considered sleep apnoea?

I don't know any natural remedy for snoring apart from sprays and rings from chemist. I just have to tap my husband and he stops and I fall asleep by the the third time I stop him. My husband only snores when very tired.
