She said instead of rushing in straight away, she listns for the sounds in amongst the crying and responds appropriately to the cue and it has worked atreat each time! She said it saves having to go through the check the nappy, are you hungry, do you need a burp, do you just need a cuddle checklist each time.
As for the baby whisperer. Im sure it has worked for other mothers but since watching it I have tried really hard to listen to my babies noises and he, simply, doesnt make the noises she talks about. My first instinct was the confidence thing too. But even if thats the way it works, by empowering the mother and making her more confident then atleast thats something!

not sure the 'signing' is a sudden miracle. There is research out there that shows that babies of deaf parents who sign begin to 'sign' at an earlier age than babies of speaking parents begin to speak. As a speech pathologist I often encouraged parents to sign (always with speech) for children that were having difficulty picking up language. Given my experiences and reading in the area I fully intend to sign with my baby.

I saw it and thought it was interesting, I would like to see some proper research in it. Like signing (which is another sudden miracle) I wonder if it has more to do with watching and observing so you get to know your child better or possibly the power came from the building confidence in the mother, a confident mother would be reassuring to the baby ....the touch, feel etc being firmer so the baby is less stressed. I am not dismissing the merit of her work, I simply want to know more, having had four children I didnt have a lot of the problems she spoke of, but I did have a reflux baby and essentially I was told while he was putting on weight and sleeping he was fine, we had to elevate his cot and keep him upright for an hour after a feed but apart from using Infacol which assisted with wind removal in my kids they were fairly settled. Then again I was a dreadful mother who had her kids in a routine that often meant I had to wake them for feeds...
