I had to take my son to emergency at 2 weeks because of a cold and he was having trouble breathing. They suggested saline drops for up the nose which did help so much. We used Fess nasal drops.

I agree definatly use nyal nose drops if his nose is blocked it clears it up straight away. And it is NON MEDICATED which is a bonus because it means you can use it as often as you need to.

My daughter at about a month old stopped breathing whilst on my boob due to a blocked nose then when she came too she had a full on panic atack, which scared the crap out of me. She couldn't work out that she could breath through her mouth if her nose was blocked. I wish soemone had warned me that this could happen, because it was the scariest thing.

In desperation I put vicks on her singlet because thats all I had, it cleared her up very quickly and did nothing to her skin, and even if it had it would have been worth it, no point having a clear skinned dead baby, I'd rather have a rashy alive one.

The next day I went and bought Nyle infant nose drops from the supermarket. I think every new Mum should have this on her in preparation and I have told many of my friends to get some just in case ever since this happened to me. I don't know why they don't mention it in your pre-natal classes.................just another thing they don't think to mention.

But that's what I did and it worked. I also put eucalyptus in a humidifier and put some on tissues which I stuck under her cot sheet. I also propped (she went straight into a cot, not a bassinet) her cot mattress up with a blanket underneith it and stuck her in her sleeping bean bag to stop her from slliding down.

I had heard years ago that sticking vicks on the soles of your feet is a pressure point thing so I did that too, she got over it pretty quick.

Available at the chemist, but it doesn't say on there an age limit. I am pretty sure I used it on them that young. But if you go to the chemist, they can advise you whether it is safe. I remember asking them and that is what they recommended. Also used a vapouriser both in the bedroom and in the lounge where they spend their time.

Try a vapuoriser, no too close though. Also, if you are breastfeeding squirt a little milk up his nose every time you feed him. I know this may sound yucky but it really works! Antibodies in the milk will kill of the germs & unblock the nose. Hope this helps!

Hope this helps in some small way.
