Hi we cant put locks on the panatary its free standing and he will pull it onto himself, we have most of our items on top of another higher cupboard. Our other lower cupboards do have child locks on them. and our poison items are locked away. Great advice anyway, thank you

Hi i had a look at other replys which are great so i won't repeat the same old....but just a thought when you say he is climbing and getting things out of cupboards have you got cupboard locks in the uk all the safety things like this are available at most hard ware stores, its just a thought then you wont have him getting hold of the things that stain or could be dangerous. I'm not meaning bolt up all your cupboards these catches are simple to dis arm for an adult but not for children they do allsorts even frige locks hope this helps,hug's...jo xxx

I think Jess's rug idea is a good one, however it might end up getting revolting quite quickly and ultimately expensive so here's my suggestion. Pond liner. For our wedding my hubby failed to complete his one and only assignment which was to pick up the hired white table clothes...it was easter so the only shop open was Bunnings...My dad found that plastic off the roll pond liner was black on on side and Arctic white on the other, we cut the strips in half and they fit perfectly over tressel tables and it wasn't overly expensive either. My thought is to get some, cut up into the size you think will suit and he can slip and slide through his creations on the lawn...bound to get it out of his system and can be hosed off very very easily for the next time......I'm sure he'll find it much more exciting and stimulating than carpet and may get it out of his system better as it may be a fukll body all senses experience for him...and you if you don't have a good distance away...haha....just get him to come inside via the laundry and strip off there.

Robyn, thanks for the link.. I will look at them tomorrow.

Early Intervention have told me he will be able to go and have a fairly normal life. He is very connected as you already know via my blog, he is also very musical, he will play his guitar and write his own songs, about the thunder, rain, butterflies etc...

Hi Divine, If he is being assessed for high functioning autism then this may be his way of reaching out to you and putting you in his space. I would suggest , like the others an old piece of carpet and access to lots of pouring things. Observe him and see if it is joy he gets or does he look to you to see your reaction. If he looks to you - get down on that carpet and do the same thing and look to him. Follow his moves and play his game. He sound highly advanced. Please please go and have a look - their son Roan was completely recovered and they did similar work as I did with my son.

I like the rug idea of Jess's,you could use a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet though.......could you perhaps use empty jars of the things he likes and put similar items in them eg,coloured water, and dried pasta ...... make a big deal out of them being his personal things and perhaps reward him for using on them on his special carpet etc Hope this has helped hugs Crystal xx

awww he does sound like a little Pro Hart :)
i agree with Jess, you should get him a cheap rug to play with outside or on the kitchen tiles, mix up some pots of home made paint, when hes finished, hang the rug out on the line and hose it down.... it should keep him amused and hopefully keep stains off your carpets :)

I don't really have a good suggestion but if he does it because he likes it, how about getting him his own bit of carpet that you can stick outside and let him spill things on that...

Honestly I have no answer to this, as I am trying to stop my son from upending his drink on the table when he is finished.. He likes to see the water make patterns on the polished table..
