I never had reward charts, can't stand them, the kids just did it cause they liked helping me. It is just a matter of letting them do it, in a way that you are not 'telling' them to do it, justletting them help. Hope this makes sense. Leisa

We were having this discussion the other day, as one of our walking group mums is due with her second and her first is two, her expectations of the two year old are far greater than mine are of my second child, also two, but I remember having similar expectations of the first.  I don't know that my two year old would understand a reward chart but I do remember giving a reward chart to my 4yo when he was 3 and it had things like playing nicely with his brother, being good (this could be helping mummy load the washing into the machine, even though it took me longer than if I did it myself) and eating his food without argument, but it was all relevant. 

I really encouraged help in what I was doing, if I was unpacking the dishwasher, I would hand him the plastic plates etc and show him where they went, later I put a step by the cutlery drawer and let him put these away.  If I was vaccumming I let him have a turn, if I was cleaning I would give him a sponge etc.  I would praise him lots and used the rewards chart in combination with this later on. 

Hope this helps, sounds like there are lots of mums expecting big things of the their 2yo's and maybe Ihave to look again at what I expect.  I would expect that they do what they are told, like bring me your shoes so that I can put them on you.

sometimes it worked well but when were tired we can be negative and just want things done we tk over because we do things quicker our selves, for the chart to work effectively be organised things will tk longer!

Stand still while Mum brushes hair
Brings Mum toothbrush and toothpaste
Went to the toilet without any accidents
Used her words instead of grizzling
Put shoes away
Went straight to the car in the morning (we had trouble with her wanting to play with the kids when I had to get to work LOL)

Most of these are still on her rewards chart.  The toothbrush one and putting shoes away one are on her Chores list now.  The toilet one, the grizzling one and the going straight to the car one are no longer needed so we don't have those anymore.
