i dont honestly understand why people really care what other people think. i coped heaps from people when i had Alex (Alexander James) because his name is so traditional and everyone has all these new age names. i want my kids to learn their history and our last name is very scottish so we have 2 scottish names for our kids. i also got from my dad of all people with Charlotte no you cant call her that she'll get "Charlotte the Harlotte". i told the people who were giving us crap to get lost and it wasnt their kids so they had no right.

name your kids what you want. in the end you are the one's that carry for 9 months and live with them for the rest of your life.

anyway i like the name damien

i think there just trying to avoid the spelling damien as that was used in the film untill i told her she could choose make one up she had no idea, its her first baby and shes the first out of her siblings to have a baby so...she thought when she registered his birth there could be a prob. I like the spelling damyn i thik just not seen as much, but then i like unusal names mackenzie is not big in the uk some of the looks i got when he was born but i like so tuff..lol.

can't wait to get roubd there now when u start off you have like three spelling now i think im upto about 20 decitions decitions....lol

As a mother with three children with slightly different names and spelling I dont see the problem. It is up to the parent to choose the name. I know someone who called their child Peter, thats not unusual what is that the surname was Rabbit! True story.

I personally love names that are different or spelled different, just look at mine - Teshia! Nobody should worry about what anyone else thinks - I mean my husbands boss has a dog names Oscar & we called our latest Oscar! lol! Didn't even think anything of it! Tell her to call her bub whatever she wants Jo, bugger everyone else!

Damian, a letter here a letter there its still the same name, if you like it and it suits your baby (you'll know when you look into your baby's face for the first time) then go for it and don't worry about what others think!

my friends son has the same name ,, every one calls him damo ,, either way the spelling might be differnt but the names still the same ,, I actually like that name ,, funny how we associate the name with the movie .

A friend of mine has a Daemian, which is really hard to remember sometimes. In all honesty yes it was only a movie, (albeit a great one!) and this should not influence the spelling of a name. In reality she could spell it Dazmyen and pronounce it the same, it is just her decision on the spelling. Leisa

A workmate of mine is having a boy she's called Damian but he's not named after the kid in some movie. She's copped alot of flack over the name but to her (and me) it was only a movie and I'm sure if we think about our own children's names we can probably find a movie that had their name in it and quite possibly it was a little devil child or mass murderer's name in the movie. I don't see the point in naming after a movie or avoiding a name because it's in a film. I named mine Hannah because I like the name, my work mate is naming hers Damian because she and her husband like that name. For no other reason. Spelling it different seems to be the in thing at the moment though so Damion is just another way to spell it. We have a little girl called Bae-Leigh at work because her mum liked the name but thought Bayley looked to boyish and wanted to change it. Whatever works.
