I have 2 cosco alpha omega elite , 1 for each car for my 2 1/2 year old. He has never gotten out of it. It's a 5 point harness. The top buckle that goes across his chest is fairly easy to get out, but the one that buckles on the crotch is very hard. It's even hard for my thumb sometimes. You may want to look at this in a store like BabiesRUs and see for yourself if you're planning on buying another carseat. This is good for kids up to 100 lbs.

Here where I am, the law states that children under 8 must be in carseats... so that's a long ways away for my 2 year old.

maybe say to her are you going to be a good girl before you leave because if you are getting out of your seat you can stay home . another one i did is sat caitlin down and said mummy and daddy have to wear there seat belts so does caitlin and that worked with it aswell

I had 5 point seats for my kids, The originals actually had all the straps separate and connected by the buckel in the middle and they could still escape, like you I found it scary and frustrating. I have just purchased one for my grandson and the design hasnt changed much in the last 20 years... when my kids were little I pulled the straps as tight as I could but they, like Houdini could wiggle their shoulders out and then the rest is history, I ended up attaching a string which once strapped in I would wind it round and round so they couldnt separate the shoulder straps and wiggle out.... my only concern is that had there been an accident it would have taken longer for them to release my child fortunately I never had to find out. I liked the advice of pulling over and replacing the toddler in the seat, (didnt deduct stars for the slap on the leg I to would have done that,) its an issue of safety another thing would be to trun around an go home she's old enough to realise that her behaviour isnt funny and she is mising out. Best wishes
