I think the Report button is good when used appropriately. There have been a few dubious emails from unknown members who have subsequently been deleted and there is on the odd occasion, unwelcome advertising so I think the report button helps to keep Minti's integrity not to mention a tidy database with advice in the advice part and questions in the question part. When searching for info on a particular topic, this is important and people join so they can have access to quality info.

I dont think you have a big mouth Blackwidowkate, I just think you contribute a lot of time to communicating with other Minti members and your ranking rewards you for your time and recognises your time contributed. You along with the many other regulars would have contributed months and months of your life on this site. The rankings just show that you (among so many) deserve respect for your efforts. It would be a shame to have that recognition taken away. I would say this regardless of where I was ranked.

I'd just like to know why Izzy hasn't turned gold yet?

I like the ranking in Minti as it did guide me when I was a new member. I dont even notice, I must admit if someone does vote me down half the time, but when I do, you know what - there's more to life. And it is ok for someone to disagree with me. They might have something to teach me. Keep an open mind and dont let this sort of stuff get to you, guys.

Everyone's input to this site is of equal value and the ranking system does not change that perspective.

However, If you notice that someone is "chasing" your comments and marking you down continually, then send them a private email first and ask them why they disagree - the rest of Minti doesn't need to see an argument. You might find that they had no real problem or once confronted may back off when they realise you have noticed their behaviour. If it cannot be sorted, and the "stalking" continues tell them in another email that you will have no option but to report their behaviour.

Hope this is helpful to anyone that has been a victim of being unneccessarily marked down. Unfortunately, it is hard to determine who is doing it, so watch carefully and dont be to hasty to accuse in your first email. Just merely ask.

To the "stalkers" and "chasers" marking people down unnecessarily - DO NOT RUIN THIS WONDERFUL SITE FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Gold members are moderators, and admin just needs to be more involved, we've had Angela away on short leave. Having paid moderators have their own issues too. I am sure we can as moderators and admin continue to improve in this area. Thanks for your great comments.

Ranking is to help new parents and parents that read the content to determine the consensus from other parents. And helps the advice rise to the top to avoid having to dig, its just another small part of the process of reading content, but for so members a big important competitive issue. I think if we didnt have ranking we would still have issues.

thanks will digest. we need ranking to help new parents reading the content. We are reviewing the voting on comments system. Would agree or disagree cause more problems? Moderators are the gold members on the site and we do have a community manager, sometimes situations flare up outside of moderators scope as well as most background to the full story is not always known by members. hope this helps

All votes should be registered in the activity list not just as blind could be anyone one on anything votes, but exactly the same way a comment or advice published shows up, that might alleviate the whole problem with nastiness in the voting on Advice etc, they would be exposed and there fore would be less likely to hit and run as is now sadly and frequently the case. Also (& I know this makes 2) I don't think things should be deleted entirely, they should be relegated to archives or something, it's like erasing history, whats done is done, whats said is said, deleting resolves nothing, thats my opinion for what its worth. Oh and one more suggestion, in your friends bit if there was a search bar like I want to find harrisons Mum for example but she's not on my first page of 4 or 5 or however many there are, I could just type it in and it'd take me right to her button in my friends pages (not her page incase I want to move her closer or something)

people need to realise that not all advice will work for everyone ,, somethings are black and while and others are just grey .. we all have differnt oppions and differnt ways of doing things that have worked for us ,, thats why minti makes it a great place for so many people

when people write an article

if it hasnt worked for you dosent mean it might not work for another person or it just may work later down the track,,and we need to respect and understand that ...

as long as it isnt information that can harm anyone ,,

we all do things in our own way that we have found that works for us .through trial and error ......negitive responces are not needed as we are all still learning to be a parent in differnt stages of our lives .....

if anyone dosent like whats been said cause it hasnt worked for them then just dont either vote or leave negative a responce ,,,,( keep in mind that when you write it dosent also mean that you are always going to be right cause like i said not everything will work for everyone but its a great way to find out differnt things to try .there are many pros and cons to all sorts of things and as a writer we all have to remember that point ,, .. as long as its not harmful to your child etc,,

it takes a village to raise a child and minti is just that a village for us to learn and help where we can xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I just want to add my vote to all those who have already said that its not Minti that is the problem

All of us as members are responsible for the way it is run, all the good articles all the positive comments and all the friendship and support but we are also equally responsible for the the backstabbing, the flaming the arguments etc

We should just all accept that everyone can have their own opinion and no one should be shot down for holding an opinion whether we agree with it or not. Your own opinion on all things is your right and entitlement.
However, forcing your opinion on others, getting angry with others of a different opinion.
backstabbing and bitching each other for doing things in a different way, should be not tolerated in any way. If we all treated each other with respect whether we agree with each other or not..........
Thats the only thing I think could make Minti a better place

I wouldn't change a thing. I love Minti and concept behind the scenes. I love the way it works and I love how it all goes together . . .

BUT - minti is not what needs to change. It the people who use Minti! I think people should remember to respect other members. R>E>S>P>E>C>T goes a long way and sadly some members have been very lax with respecting others.

So its NOT Minti that need the changes - it the MEMBERS . . .

The old say "United we stand - Divided we fall", comes to mind. As a united community with respect and kindess we all gain BUT with flaming, bitching and arguing we all FALL and loose a site that is so very good.

Hi - I know I haven't been on Minti much of late, but when I get into it - I really get into it. It is very captivating. I think one thing we all have to remember is that we dont have to answer to anyone from the comfort of our own home/computer. If someone doesn't like us and puts us down. We dont have to stay on that page. Just ignore it. Rise yourself above their comments and move on to someone else and befriend them. That is the beauty of being online. I think I have written something similar to this in a previous discussion some months ago. Often people love interacting and the intensity grows and grows until the relationship finds those differences. It's absolutely normal and perhaps that relationship has to have a cooling off period. Dont take it to heart. Continue to present your "best self". If you need to say something - try to find the positive that the other person is saying. Your initial perception of what they have written may not be what they had intended. If you are not sure. Dont answer, move on. They will chase you and realise how they may have sounded if they really care.

I wouldn't change a thing about Minti. I love the rankings and have always found guidance in those that have been on Minti for longer than I have (shown in the rankings). I like the concept, layout, search functions and ability to have my own page.

I'm a newcomer here so am a little in the dark. So, what awful things have been going on ? So far at least, this place strikes me as relatively harmonious and respectful. Differing opinions, sure, but isn't that all to the good ?

And - can you think of a topic that stirs up MORE differing opinions than parenting ? That's the nature of the beast, I think !

I will read/listen to advice from anybody on anything - I just reserve the right to follow, modify or totally ignore in accordance with my own lifestyle, principles, circumstances etc I guess i just assumed everybody did the same. But then I'm an Aussie and maybe we're a pretty thickskinned bunch. We also tend to call a spade a spade so perhaps there are cultural as well as personality differences that could account for people taking things the wrong way or getting offended.

Just because you go gold doesnt give u the power to lower some ones advise or intimate them in any way, and im a gold member but it hasnt changed the way i vote or the way i am on here...

Someone said have moderaters on here today and i think thats a great idea, as we already have admin rights to run a group..... Then if that happens we are to vote who we would like as moderators in a secret ballot ....

I also think that about how others are not silly on how they react, some come on here to boost their self confidence, and try and walk in their shoes for a day.... so when its time to meet that person face to face if you get that oppurnity you know in your self that they are not much diffrent to on here, and that you might have just made their day with a compliment.....

Have more, but i let admin do their duties on here hehe.....

I wouldn't change a thing about minti, this is how the owners wanted it, the only thing that is going to make it a happier place if members acted like they would when they were face to face with another person or their friends..... No matter what you changed people are always going to dissagree or get their feelings hurt..... isn't that life..... Respect and decency is the only thing that will make this a better site xx

I would take away the rankings because as soon as you go gold the attacking startsJust becuase you are gold does not mean you are a rankings grabber jsut means you either got a bigger mouth or lots of time on your hands lol
I would change the starts for votes.
Should be agree or disagree. Worked or didn't work

For everyone to act like adults and everyone has an opinion, and it won't be the same as your own. If they don't agree with what someone has put down, sit back, relax, and think about what they've written and why they've written it instead of going off the deep end. Every thing works differently for everyone. We are all not the same, so somethings will work perfectly for some, and not others.

Well said. Everyday in life, we encounter people with different opinions/beliefs to our own. Do we go getting all hot under the collar and argumentative about it..........most times no. We walk away, and that's probably what people should do when they feel this way when siting in front of the computer. Damned it people, just walk away, have a coffee, play with your kids, have a snooze...do something to get a clear perspective on things. If you find that you are unable to do so, then don't make a comment, just leave it. Look at something else on minti.

I think people need to be more accepting of others.

And I do think the moderators are a good suggestion.

My personal opinion is Minti needs actual moderators. Looking at almost every disagreement on minti I think the main problem is there is no real control to decide what goes, it is left to us which is clearly not working. I have never really liked the voting system either as it seems to cause so much bickering, but it is a small part of it.

Do we really have to have a ranking???? I mean vote on the article, this goes toward how good it its and what people are thinking, but to have a ranking on what you have done..... Voting. For the most part it works. There are some who take advantage of the system to the detriment of others. I would say I would like to change it but I just don't know any solutions to make it better for everyone in here.

I would encourage everyone to read Minit's Editorial Guidelines and all the links contained within the site, so they could understand how it works.

Just as you would read a recipe before cooking; the words to a song before singing it; the instruction manual for your appliances before using them.

When people have more knowledge, they can then make sensible informed decisions, and it saves them getting upset over silly things.
