Hi, my son was having hearing tests every 6 months as he failed a hearing test at birth.
The funny thing is he was discharged 12 months ago as his hearing was fine. It was only the last 4 months he started having trouble with his hearing and wanting me to repeat everything. His consultant found he has some fluid behind his eardrum, hence the grommits. Has your son had a hearing test done or did your gp just look in his ears?

My son had his all out at the age of two... He was asleep for the first day, did not really show that he was in much pain... He winged a little but I think that was mostly from the drugs.. The second day he wanted to eat every thing he was not allowed.. By the third day he was running around like nothing happened...

At such a young age is best to get it done because it is a lot quicker to recover then being older...

Good luck... Oh and get him a little something special for when he comes out.. It distracted my son, I am sure it will do the same for yours...

My son had his operation 4 weeks ago and we are so happy it is done. he had tonsils, adenoids and grommets done. Honestly he is changed little boy! 4 hours after it was done he was eating a packet of tiny teddys. GO figure!! Expect a little crankiness and make sure you keep up with his pain relief. We gave him Painstop every 6 hours as we were instructed. I think if you keep on top of the pain relief it makes life a lot easier. It took about 2 weeks for our little bud to be back to normal but now he can hear and he starting to gain weight again coz he is eating now. I take him back to the hospital next week to get his check up done. 2 days after it was done he ended up with an infection in 1 ear but was given a course of antibiotics and all was well. The Dr's will tell you what to look out for and how to deal with it. Straight after the op was the worst but all you can do its comfort him. The best of luck and I'll be sending happy thoughts to you and your son. Its well worth while...

My sister had her tonsils and adenoids removed when she was 5. She was in a fair amount of pain from it for about a week. There was also a lot of bleeding in the first few hours of the operation, so expect to see that too.

All I can say is it will be rough for a few days. Make sure he rests alot, and stays away from anyone who is sick, as he can get it really bad just after the surgery. The doc will give you pain medicine, so make sure you give it as dosed. Lots of Ice Cream, cold drinks and anything that is very soft and cool. Try to keep him from getting up alot and running around and keep him from wanting to talk alot as it will hurt. If you can get a soft ice pack for his neck and throat area, that will help alot. hi loubylou, my son is booked in to have this done too next month, can you tell me why yours has to have gromets? Ive often thought that he might have hearing problems but my gp doesnt seem to think he has a problem.
