I think my child is like this bec she does have to compete with another sibling that is only 12months older than her.

She also has a very strong personality like she is strong and pig headed and really stubbon.

She will scream for hours if something doesnt go her way or just for nuthing, i know its hard and i know you feel that you cant cope anymore but there is alot of methods out the that minti will share to make life a little easier b4 you seeing the specialist.

I find distraction the easiest atm never worked b4 but at the moment its working. I have a plastic croc that makes noise so when she is in her fit ill bring it out and start making that noise to get her attention and that will calm her down until she will sit on me a play with it for a while until she forgets what was making her scream and hurt herself. Then we will play for a while and then she will go off and do her own thing.

Sometimes i just dont have the time may i be on the phone or in the middle of something i have to pick her up and put her in the spare room that has just a bed in it no toys ect 7 out 10 time she will scream herself to sleep.

I hope some people can give you some real great advise and ideas, if you want to minti mail me please feel free and maybe i can give you some more tips  on what i have tried and what i havent.

When a routine is broken or unforeseen events take place with a child who has autism/aspergers they get frustrated, angry and behave in strange ways. Hurting themselves is their way of dealing with the frustrations and incompleted routine. For example when you're about to take her shopping, explain to her that you're about to put her in the car, you're going for a drive and then we're going shopping together. When we get to the shops, we're just going to get a couple of things and then we can go back in the car and go home. Once the child with Autism knows the event before it happens, it can become a part of their routine. Hopefully this will help you with the behavioural problems temporarily before you see a specialist. I'm 99% sure, autism.

Also get a detailed letter about your child from the Centre to give to the Paed as this will help the diagnosis.

My daughter has ADHD and I knew she was different but I also knew roughly why. When it came time for a diagnosis I wrote a letter outlining her, good and bad and got one from the schoolo and gave them to the Paed. We now see a Psychiatrist and I still write what has been happening good and bad so he can see improvements or set backs.

It isnt easy to have a special child but if you dont act a sher advocate no one else will. I can be rewarding but it hard work and you need all the support you can get for the family.

I feel for you, it is very distressing to watch your child suffering and feeling unable to sooth.
