Other than total abstinance, there is no 100% guarantee, not even having your tubes tied. If you aren't planning on having any more babies ever, then a full hysorectomy would work, but most doctors won't do it as a form of 'birth control'without there being a confirmed medical reason for it.

I use implanon, its a small rod they insert under the skin in your arm, it slowly releases the same hormones as the pill and lasts 3 years! it works great for me, i have no period, no real weight gain, i am moody at times but it may or may not work for you.

Yes birth control really does work for the majority of people. The only method of contraception which is 100% effective is abstinence all the rest differ in percentages but most are highly effective. The contraceptive pill is the best and you may or may not experience weight gain and if you do put on weight it will not be that substantial. Also being on the pill will also regulate your periods and make them lighter and easier to handle. So you might find that the nausea you experience during your period will subside a little.

Then there's condoms which are also highly effective if used properly. Condoms are great although they can take the fun and spontaneity out of sex. Remember there are femal condoms as well.

There is also the rod that can be inserted into your arm called an implanon which stops you from having a period although some people find they experience spotting. Contraceptive injection which is given to you in 3 monthly doses. The emergency contraceptive pill which can be taken after unprotected sex to prevent you from falling pregnant (although this shouldn't be relied upon and should be saved for emergencies only). An IUD which is a piece of bent plastic or metal which is inserted into the uterus. And latly there is a new type of contraceptive out called the vaginal ring which works like the contraceptive pill except you don't need to swallow any pills.

All of these different types of contraception can be researched on the internet and then you can discuss with your doctor which type would be most suitable to you. There are also other types of contraception available but I listed the main ones that I though were suitable to your question.

And remember contraception is a case of trial and error until you find which one works best for you and your partner. So I hope this helps!
