Hey just keep asking different doctors. Who cares if you get 10 opinions or even 20, don't stop until you hear what you're satisfied with. If 20 doctors all say the same thing then yeah okay maybe it's time to give in and listen to them. But if doctors from the same place can't make a decision, try elsewhere! Ask ...

Ask around for specialists.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked, Stunned, Outraged................ Not all lumps will show up on an ultrasound any Doctor with any medical training knows that, technology has its limitations. Surely if your Doc can feel this lump then the next step is to gently put a needle in and take a cell sample. He will straight away be able to tell if it is fluid filled or solid mass by doing so. That is standard medical procedure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am with the others, I would get a second oppinion asap and demand a biop to lay all your fears to rest.

Wait and see indeed, I cant believe that he said that to you, it is so unproffessional and positively reeks of incompitence!!!!!!!!!!!!

No girl you follow your Mummy instinct it is the gift you were given to aid you through Motherhood and if all is well then so what if you made a fuss, it was for all the right reasons.

i agree with the others that you might want to get a second opinion. if it feels like bone, it may just be a calcification from a bump that she had, maybe months ago, that may not necessarily have come up in a bruise at the time; it may be something else that needs treating. the next steps might be ...

i agree with the others that you might want to get a second opinion. if it feels like bone, it may just be a calcification from a bump that she had, maybe months ago, that may not necessarily have come up in a bruise at the time; it may be something else that needs treating. the next steps might be CT scan, MRI scan and biopsy, as these tests can give much more detail on what it could be than an ultrasound or xray. as great as your GP may be, GP's tend to have experience in a broad range of common health problems and are not usually very good (at least from my experience) at dealing with more obscure and complicated problems. Ask for a referal to see a specialist- either a paediatrician, surgeon or oncologist (not saying that she needs surgery or has anything life threatening, they just know a lot more about lumps than the average GP). good luck and best wishes. xx

Hi again,

Wow geez I am quite shocked they havent given you any answers! Its easy for them to say wait and see what happens i guess when its not their child.. I worry that if they arent willing to find out exactly whats caused it i have to agree that you should seek a second opinion. I can tell by your message that you still feel unsettled, that my dear, is called mums instinct and i think you should follow it and find some answers that will help you sleep at night.

To be honest if you hurt something that causes a lump that large, shes done herself an injury that does need investigating, I mean if you put your shoulder out and its not feeling as it should when you run your fingers along it, then they send you to someone to have it all lined up again.. seems they havent given you any follow up like physio or anything consistant with aftercare of injuries...

Your doc may well be a good doctor, I personally dont know the practice so i cannot speculate, but I would go with your gut and get a second opinion, even if it just means you talk to someone who makes more sense than those you have spoken to so far... I had one occasion with my son, who was wheezing so loud i could hear him across the house even in the middle of the day. I took him to 3 differnt doctors in 3 days and all of them said ohh hes fine, he'll recover.. i couldnt sleep and had to have one eye open for him at all times it was exhausting!.. after leaving the last doctor in tears coz he said to me 'sick kids dont sleep so peacefully and look so content...' i went straight from there to my parents doc who had him admitted to hospital hours later, put him on oxygen for days and he tested positive for the RSV that babies were getting very ill from! Without treatment he wouldnt have recovered so well.

My instincts were telling me that something wasnt right there, I always trust it these days even if it means you look like you dont believe em .. It's your child not theirs and you are the one that is stressed from it. I'm not sayin that anything major is wrong, so dont panic, I just feel you need more information on whats happened to cause it and some one to give you an answer that 'feels' correct.

Hoping that you get some answers soon and all the best to your lil one and family

Cheers from Mel xx

Seriously, get a second opinion! Find out from friends the name of a good doctor, or ask for a referal to a paediatrician from your doc. The tests do not cost thousands ( we are talking MRI or CT scans and even through a private hospital, it is a matter of a couple of hundred dollars, there is some medicare rebate. ) These tests will show up lots of things that ultrasounds do not. Ultrasounds are OK for a first test, but do not show up details of things that may be causing problems. I am fairly gobsmacked that your Doc hasn't suggested these tests as the ultrasound didn't show up what can obviously be felt. Don't sit back and accept this as doctors are not infallible. Seek follow up. Your cherub should probably also have a few blood tests to rule out what it is NOT. Remember, it is better to overreact than not at all..... if it turns out to be nothing once all APPROPRIATE TESTING has been done, then at least your mind is at rest. If it does turn out to be something, then it is best action happens sooner rather than later. Trust your mother's instinct as it has saved many childrens lives!

Must be really unsettling for you... and how odd that the lump doesn't show up on the ultrasound!
I don't really have any answer/suggestions/advice to give... just wanted to let you know that we all feel for you in the uncertainty and frustration of not knowing what else to do!...
in our prayers...
