It's got nothing to do with sex, genitals or anything feeling good. It's all to do with him figuring out that he has body parts, just like he would have played with his feet a lot earlier in life, and the thrusting is just to do with learning movement and muscle control.

so he might just be wanting to keep moving. i cant imagine how embarassing it was for you when your son did it! luckily my boys legs are together, and its not very ovbious! only hubby has noticed it. i didnt even want to mention it to my mums group because their boys havnt really paid attention to their genitals.

thanks for the congrats :) i hope to feed him untill he is 2yo. if everything goes well (ie, he doesnt bite )

My boy did this too. Very embarrasing for me when breastfeeding him in public. He would put one of his legs between mine and the of other in the air (like an acrobat) and then start thrusting.
This only lasted for a few months! It stopped without me doing anything.

This only lasted for a few months! It stopped without me doing anything.

I don't think it is related to finding his genitals - this occurred later for my boy. Most probably due to bordom (they want to feed, but their brain wants to do something stimulating).

Congratulations for breastfeeding him so long. My boy is still feeding at 16 months.

If you wanteed to reduce the thrusting, Perhaps lift him up and down when feeding - so he gets a similar type of stimulation, give him something interesting to hold in his hand, pat his bum.

We also play the 'where is baby" game. Look around for your baby, ask "where is -insert his name-", then make eye contact with him. My bub thinks this is hilarious.

Good luck.

wow cant believe how alike some boys are. my son (almost three) started doing it when he turned one. i read up on it and i got advice that i must not discourage it so i left it at that and ignored him if he did it. i found that he does it when he gets bored or tired or after a time out (probably frustration). and when he goes to bed he sometimes takes him pants down to play with it and laughs at it when it gets sort of hard and erect and then falls asleep within minutes. he also likes rubbing against teddies.

i think it is just a matter of them learning about their bodies and the functions of their penises. if he starts doing it in public i just tell him that it is not nice for little boys to play with their penis where strangers or other people can see him, then he stops.
